Shantanu (Shan) Nandi received his B.S. (Honors) in Electrical Engineering from Jabalpur University, India in 1968 and his MSEE from the Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa in 1971. For his Master’s degree thesis he developed an Analog Simulation of Synchronous Machines connected to transmission lines and load. As an alumnus, he has offered seminars in the field of his expertise at the Graduate School of Electrical Engineering, Iowa State University.
Upon graduation, he joined Commonwealth Edison Company in Chicago and held several positions in Engineering and Planning Departments.  Mr. Nandi’s responsibility includes development of thermal capabilities of Transmission and Distribution lines in the bulk power system.  In 1992, he was appointed as the company’s Consulting Engineer for “High Voltage Wires and Cables”. 
As a Senior Member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society, Shan is the current Vice-Chair of the Insulated Conductors Committee and will assume chairman’s position effective January 1, 2008. He is the past Chairman of Standards and Publications committee of ICC. He also chairs Working Group C23D, “Guide to the factors to be considered in the planning, design, and installation of transmission overhead/underground terminal”. 
In 2003, he applied for a patent on the design of Fiber Optic Integrated Overhead Transmission Conductor (FOTC).  Shan is the author/co-author of numerous publications on wire and cable engineering.  He is an adjunct professor at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, Illinois, U.S.A.time.
