Computer Application Software (CAS)The Computer Application Software curriculum prepares students to use application software such as word processing, spreadsheeting, database, presentation graphics and desktop publishing to solve business problems and increase efficiency in the workplaace, Courses are designed for students who have limited computer skills, are preparing to enter the workforce, would like to use their personal computer at home more effectively, or want to increase their computer application software knowledge. Oakton offers three certificates in the application software arena: the Microsoft Office User Specialist Core (MOUS Core), Desktop Publishing and Desktop Design. Introductory and advanced courses are offered in state-of-the-art computer labs. Desktop Publishing and Desktop Design certificates include a series of courses that focus on how to design, layout, and create newsletters, brochures, advertisements, magazines, and books using a variety of desktop software applications used in the business world. Students learn how to integrate photos, graphics, and charts with text into their documents.
