Graphic Design

The Associate in Applied Science degree in graphic Design prepares students for opportunities in advertising agencies, companies, with in-house design and production departments, printing companies, service bureaus and multimedia production houses. Employment in these areas includes jobs as freelance illustrator and designer, junior graphic designer, creative director, illustrator, special effects artist, animator, and sound production artist. The goal of the Graphic Design program is to enable students to build a portfolio of work for admission to a baccalaureate-granting institution or art school, or to show skill levels for employment.

The Animation and Multimedia certificate is available to those students who have a background in graphic design and wish to have a specific area of concentration in the production of animated graphic design and multimedia in such areas as video broadcast, sound production, the Web, and CD and game production.

The Web Graphic Page Design certificate meets the tremendous demand for people with strong design skills who can apply these to the new marketplace: the World Wide Web. Many employment opportunities exist for graphic artists who can combine their design expertise and knowledge of the computer to create innovative and exciting Web sites.

The Photography Certificate allows the student to have a specific area of concentration within the field of graphic design. This certificate program equips the student with skills that allow for employment opportunities in many entry-level jobs in the photographic industry, including portraiture, photojournalism, lab processing specialists, studio photographers, photographers' assistants and free lance photographers.
