Teaching Philosophy:My teaching philosophy is tied to my ideas about how learning best takes place. I think of learning as a dynamic and interactive process where students and teacher are engaged in an active and on going discovery about psychological knowledge. This learning will be facilitated by a teaching style that encourages critical thinking and requires students to consider their new learning in a sociopolitical and cultural context. This philosophy also recognizes that learning does not occur in a vacuum and that the learning process will be mediated by the different and varied experiences that each student brings to the classroom. Teaching effectiveness will be enhanced when students are able to take risks, be open-minded and suspend pre-conceived notions in order to expand one's thoughts about the subject under study. These objectives will most likely be met by my creating a learning community in the classroom that will rely on discussion, group work, and short lectures.
