| Employment & Experience in the Field |
I have nearly 20 years in the pre-press printing field and over 10 in Internet. I've done everything from paste up to being managing editor of a national business magazine. On the Internet side, my last position was as Director of Web Development for a company which specialized in real estate websites. Presently I'm teaching Photoshop and Web Development nationally for SkillPath Seminars. |
My Style
|
Teaching is the one job I have that let's me interact with others, and I love it. I also love the programs and fields I teach . . .Photoshop, Illustrator and Web Development. While I do a brief lecture at the beginning of the class, I believe a student best learns by digging into a program and playing in it. To that end I give projects and quizzes, but no big exams. My goal is to teach you where to find the information, not to force you to memorize it. My quizzes are open book, open computer and, for my practical quizzes, open teacher. Each quiz and project is a chance to learn more about the program. The best way to do that is with me helping out at that moment where a stuent isn't quite sure how to do the unique thing they are trying to do to make their project special. Between labs, quizzes and in class assignments, I spend as much one on one time as possible with each student to help them work through any elements which seem challenging or confusing. My goal is to make sure each student leaves the class knowing the program and beyond that to help each student stretch past the boundires they've set for themselves as to what is possible with these amazing programs.

| Personal Information |
I'm married and live in Southeast Chicago in a little neighborhood called Hegewisch. It's not very close to either campus, but I love teaching at Oakton. Beyond teaching and web development, I also write for Sci Fi Channel Publications including Sci Fi Magazine which is on the newsstands. I've wirtten three screenplays which haven't been produced yet and a novel which is under consideration at TOR books. I also have two cats, who like to help me write by sitting on my keyboard whenever they get the chance. |
