In this age of the Internet, robust cable and satellite industries, home video markets, and still-emerging technologies, majoring in communications offers diverse and increasing career opportunities. Students can begin their studies at Oakton and then transfer to a four-year college or university.

Taking communications classes will help you

  • prepare to major in radio, TV, film, journalism, advertising, public relations, and other related fields;

  • develop skills in audio and video production and post-production;

  • understand how to land a job in today’s media market – and how to succeed;

  • keep informed about the cultural and economic impact of media industries.

Oakton’s small class size allows for individual attention and state-of-the-art technical support further enhances the learning experience.

All communications classes at Oakton are taught by Bob Burton, chair of television and production services. Professor Burton has earned several teaching excellence honors, and brings to the classroom a professional background that includes creative and administrative work at a major Chicago television station, and writing and directing videos for corporate and not-for-profit clients.
