RFID Phase 2

Phase 2 of the Stratum Global TagNet solution at Oakton Community College will focus on enhancing the usability of the Phase 1 implementation through the increase in the number of RFID portals.

By increasing the number of mobile and fixed RFID portals, the curriculum can be enhanced through the increase of “hands on” student development and enhancement. The existing Phase 1 infrastructure has (1) fixed portal that RFID tagged objects can pass through and (1) handheld mobile portal that can be taken to any tagged object. Phase 2 considerations are as follows: fixed portal on wheels (Fig.1) and multiple handheld mobile portals (Fig.2).

Figure 1 - Fixed Portal on Wheels
Example.
The fixed portal will be a replication of the initial portal that is currently installed at Oakton CC with one change. Rather than installing to a fixed area (i.e. wall or doorway), a archway or opening will be manufactured on wheels with installed RFID components that can be moved around the facility as required.
Example.
The Handheld mobile portals will also replicate the initial handheld solution installed at Oakton CC. The addition of 2 mobile portals will allow for increased student “hands on” activity as well as expanding real world use cases in supply chain management in having multiple “checkpoints” throughout a simulated supply chain.
