Course Name: Indoor Air Quality

III. Course (Catalog) Description
Course covers sources of pollutants, methods of control, and management techniques to maintain acceptable indoor air quality.
IV. Learning Objectives
After successful completion of this course the student will:
- Discuss factors in building that influence indoor air quality and environmental health.
- Explain the appropriate instrument for sampling animal, vegetation, and earth, mineral, radioactive and combustion contaminants.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of operative temperatures as defined by ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) standards.
- Identify solution and develop an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) plan.
- Prepare proposal for implementing solutions for IAQ.
Laboratory work will give the student time to apply the principles and procedures discussed in the test and during lectures.
V. Academic Integrity and Student Conduct

• falsification and fabrication (lying or distorting the truth),
• helping others to cheat,
• unauthorized changes on official documents,
• pretending to be someone else or having someone else pretend to be you,
• making or accepting bribes, special favors, or threats, and
• any other behavior that violates academic integrity.
There are serious consequences to violations of the academic integrity policy. Oakton's policies and procedures provide students a fair hearing if a complaint is made against you. If you are found to have violated the policy, the minimum penalty is failure on the assignment and, a disciplinary record will be established and kept on file in the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs for a period of 3 years.

VII. Methods of Instruction
The methods include lectures, videos, class discussions; a mixture of classroom exercise, and supervised hands-on experience in laboratory.
Course may be taught as face-to-face, hybrid or online course.
VIII. Course Practices Required
- All laboratory safety rules must be followed by students.
- The maximum allowed absences are six (6). Any more will result in a failing grade.
(Three absences will lower your grade by one letter grade).
- All quizzes and exam must be completed.
- Three tardiness will be equal to one absence.
- Each student must participate in shop practices.
- Do not leave the class for the evening without notifying your instructor.
- The schedule of lecture and lab assignments is tentative. It may change as conditions dictate.
- Lecture attendance is mandatory.
