Course Name: Cisco Scaling Networks

III. Course (Catalog) Description
Course covers the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in a larger and more complex network. Content includes how to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches for advanced functionality. Students learn to resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, STP, and VTP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement DHCP and DNS operations in a network. Course presents most recent release of the Cisco curriculum. This is the third course in the Cisco Routing and Switching sequence of four courses.
IV. Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Configure and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS operations for IPv4 and IPv6
- Understand and describe the operations and benefits of the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
- Configure and troubleshoot STP operations
- Understand and describe the operations and benefits of link aggregation and Cisco VLAN Trunk Protocol (VTP)
- Configure and troubleshoot VTP, STP, and RSTP
- Configure and troubleshoot basic operations of routers in a complex routed network for IPv4 and IPv6
- Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol (single-area OSPF and multi-area OSPF)
- Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
- Configure and troubleshoot advanced operations of routers and implement RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP routing protocols for IPv4 and IPv6
- Manage Cisco IOS® Software licensing and configuration files

• any other behavior that violates academic integrity.
There are serious consequences to violations of the academic integrity policy. Oakton's policies and procedures provide students a fair hearing if a complaint is made against you. If you are found to have violated the policy, the minimum penalty is failure on the assignment and, a disciplinary record will be established and kept on file in the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs for a period of 3 years.

VII. Methods of Instruction
A combination of lectures, lab, and on-line activities will be used to master the material.
Course may be taught as face-to-face, hybrid or online course.
VIII. Course Practices Required
All Cisco lessons and chapter tests must be completed as well as the assigned laboratories. Reading material from supplemental sources as assigned must be read and a structured journal is kept.
