Personal Statement

The best I can bring to the class-room is a life-long love of learning and teaching. I have been doing both virtually my entire life. So I love the life of the class-room and the engagement of students each experience of which is new. I have been curious about religions and their role in culture, the personal life and human history since college days.

Though early on courses in Religion were almost non-existent I studied Anthropology and was lucky enough to find a fine professor who taught courses in Religious Philosophies and Religious Ideas in Literature. I continued in graduate studies at Hebrew Union College and the University of Chicago. I have had the good fortune to teach and lecture at several institutions of higher learning and to lecture in many popular settings and am looking forward to the courses at Oakton.

Oakton holds a special place for John Nebl, a police officer who took classes at the College during the 1980s. Not only did he find his vocation, he also found his wife.
