Personal Statement

I am a native Chicagoan, raised in Uptown and, later, in West Ridge. While an “ordinary kid” on the surface, I had a dreamy, speculative side, with an acute environmental conscience. This side eventually prevailed, when I later decided to abandon plans for a law career and to pursue graduate studies in philosophy. After a stint at the University of Chicago, I completed my doctorate at the University of Illinois on the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche. In addition to my interests in nineteenth-twentieth century European thought, I have extensive teaching experience in the study of religion and in environmental ethics. I also presently teach at Lewis University. In addition to teaching, my other passions include distance running and the writing of poetry.
