Section 001 is structured around the theme of "Cultures of Migration," which focuses on the social, political and cultural impact upon U.S. society of immigration.

Section 004 focuses on contemporary issues in Chicago culture such as the environment, urban planning in Chicago, equality in education and in gender issues, and visits to Chicago cultural venues are planned.

As we contemplate contemporary culture, including painting, drawing , film, and literature, we will also discuss the depictions of the "the other" in the news media, film, and American popular culture in general, including Muslims, Immigrants, LGBTQ, and other groups in US society.
