HUM 290
Topics in Humanities: Food Deserts and Social Justice
This class will have a specific focus that varies from semester to semester. This Spring the focus will be Food Deserts and Social Justice.
Using literature, film, photography, theater, music, and philosophy; this class explores the issue of food deserts in Chicago and globally. Topics include the relationship between food and culture, how access and availability are impacted by various social, political and economic factors, how theories of social justice address the issue of access to food, and how communities have creatively responded to this crisis.
