Learning Outcomes

The Marketing Management curriculum is designed to meet a variety of student needs, including preparation for entry level positions, upgrading skills needed in current jobs, making career changes or acquiring specialized knowledge for small business ownership. Individuals may earn an A.A.S. degree in Marketing Management or certificates in a variety of specialized areas. Marketing involves planning and developing products and services, pricing them, making them available through effective channels of distribution and promoting them. Career positions exist in professional selling, research, advertising, customer service, public relations, retail, new product development, brand management, social media, and ecommerce. Students seeking to prepare for entry level positions will find the A.A.S. affords them the broadest range of preparation. The certificates provide students with the ability to gain new credentials quickly, to add many salable skills, and to build on previously obtained business knowledge. Students who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field may use this certificate as an addition to their credentials.

The marketing courses required to earn certificates may also be applied to the associate degree. Marketing careers in the future will demand higher levels of knowledge and skills in a variety of specialized areas. Certificates offer an opportunity for students to become more diversified in meeting tomorrow s performance requirements. Certificate hours from Global Business or Management may be applied to this degree.

Skill sets emphasized: Communication: writing and oral, critical thinking, ethical and legal decision making, team building, computer applications for business and business etiquette. Courses in this discipline develop theoretical, critical and creative skill sets.

Associates in Applied Science-Marketing Management

This is a comprehensive degree that encompasses principles of marketing, consumer behavior, professional selling, public relations, advertising, customer service, business marketing, internet marketing and brand marketing.

Students will complete a portfolio project in each class and are required to submit 3 portfolios before graduation for review. Students seeking to prepare for entry level positions will find the A.A.S. affords them the broadest range of preparation

The difference between the AAS in Marketing Management and marketing management Certificates is that the AAS students are required to take general education courses

Business Marketing Certificate

Provides extensive practice in Business to Business marketing including coursework in principles of marketing, customer service, ebusiness, professional selling and customer relationship management. Graduates will qualify for jobs in the business to business sector or supply chain aspect of the marketplace.

Marketing Communications Certificate

This is a comprehensive certificate focusing on the communication skills and careers offered within the marketing field. Courses in advertising, public relations, brand marketing, internet marketing, direct marketing and integrated marketing communications are emphasized.

Students will be eligible for jobs in advertising, public relations and entry level marketing. Students with bachelor degrees in another field may use this as an additional credential.

  1. Create a marketing and advertising portfolio project that is standardized by the department.
  2. Deliver marketing presentations using presentation software.
  3. Collaborate in teams to develop advertising and public relations campaigns.

Professional Selling Certificate

Provides the courses needed to prepare students for careers in professional selling.

Students with bachelor degrees in another field may use this as an additional credential.

E-Business Certificate

Provides the courses needed to prepare students for new jobs selling online. Courses include training in small business and internet skills.

  2. Create an online business or use existing small business outlets such as EBay, Etsy, etc.

Small Business Marketing Certificate

Provides courses needed to prepare students for becoming entrepreneurs by combining skills in small business management and marketing.

  1. Deliver an effective small business plan.
  2. Market a business of their own by developing a comprehensive business plan.

Public Relations Certificate

Provides courses needed for students considering a career in Public Relations. Students will take courses in marketing, writing, and public relations and social media.

Students with bachelor degrees in another field may use this as an additional credential.

Green Marketing Preparation

Provides courses needed for students to advise their organizations on being a better corporate citizen by following green initiatives. Program includes social media, general marketing, events and legal regulations within the industry.

Provides courses needed for students to serve as a customer service agent for their company or to develop customer service skills for a small business.
