STEM Academic Concentrations

Oakton offers an Associate of Science with concentrations in Science and Mathematics.

For students interested in studying the following academic areas and transferring to a four year institution, STEM suggests the following course sequence; please consult with academic advising for more information on transfer requirements:

Biology:
    Area B - Mathematics: MAT 250 and MAT 251
    Area C - Science: BIO 121 and CHM 121
    Concentration Requirements: CSC 155; BIO 122; CHM 122; PHY 131
    Additional Courses dependent on transfer requirements and major concentration (8 credit hours)
          BIO 104; BIO 106; BIO 131; BIO 132; BIO 151; BIO 222; BIO 240
          Total Concentration Requirements: 23

Chemistry:
    Area B - Mathematics: MAT 250 and MAT 251
    Area C - Science: BIO 121 and CHM 121
    Concentration Requirements: CHM 122; CHM 223 (or CHM 221 depending on transfer requirements); CHM 224
           (or CHM 222 depending on transfer requirements); PHY 221
    Additional Courses dependent on transfer requirements and major concentration (6 credit hours)
           CHM 229; CHM 240; PHY 222; MAT 252; MAT 260; MAT 262; CSC 170 and (CSC 171 or CSC 172 or CSC 173); BIO 122

Mathematics:
    Area B - Mathematics: MAT 250 and MAT 251
    Area C - Science: BIO 121 and CHM 121
    Concentration Requirements: MAT 252; MAT 260; MAT 262

Physics:
    Area B - Mathematics: MAT 250 and MAT 251

    Concentrations Requirements: PHY 222; PHY 223; MAT 252; CSC 170 and (CSC 171 or CSC 172 or CSC 173)
    Additional Courses dependent on transfer requirements and major concentration (7 credit hours)
           PHY 290 or other PHY course excluding PHY 101, PHY 102, PHY 131, PHY 132
           MAT 262; MAT 260; CHM 121; CHM 122
