Service Learning

Service Learning

Get involved in your community — and use your classroom knowledge at the same time! Service learning fosters a sense of caring for others and a commitment to civic responsibility while providing the ideal opportunity to connect your coursework with real-life situations.

A growing movement on college and university campuses throughout the United States, service learning integrates projects with the curriculum, giving you the chance to reflect on your experiences through reading, writing, speaking, listening, and participating in group discussions.

Service learning differs from volunteer efforts or community service, as your experience directly enhances what you learn in class. Service learning also enables you to:

  • explore majors and careers;
  • gain valuable work experience and build your resume;
  • learn new skills;
  • improve your self-esteem and personal satisfaction;
  • meet new people, make new friends, and give back to your community.
