Shooting Star Returns
Scoring more than 600 points for the women’s basketball team from 2005-07, Agata Wojciechowska enjoyed a standout athletic career at Oakton. Now she’s taking her love of sports in a new direction.
I have one of the best jobs on campus: planning intramural activities for students, staff, and faculty. Since 2009, I’ve organized a host of events ranging from flag football to food-eating contests. I’m always amazed at how competitive participants can be when prizes are on the line, even if it’s just a water bottle or t-shirt!
You can literally say that I get paid to play. When I’m asked what I do at work and I respond by saying something like, “I played volleyball today,” people are amazed. My friends tell me what I fun job I must have – and they’re right! I’m proud that I am responsible for getting more than 200 people active in intramurals each semester. The key to getting participants involved is to constantly offer different events. Basketball and volleyball leagues are always popular, but each semester I introduce new activities, such as Frisbee Golf or Ultimate Frisbee.
There are other great things about my job as well. Being a mom is my most important role, but it’s great to stay connected to the outside world, too, and interact with adults. Also, I’m passionate about athletics. One day I would like to plan professional sporting events for a living.
