The Value of a Process Picture Map (PPM) |
|||||||
| The
value of an easy-to-follow procedure becomes evident when the procedure
is not followed and a mistake is made. Time, money and effective delivery
of the "best know way" are crucial to the bottom line. Process
Picture Maps (PPMs) will: 1) Impact continuous improvement efforts 2) Identify and eliminate non-value added activities 3) Increase productivity efforts 4) Reduce on the job training, and 5) Bring awareness to all employees as to how departments are interrelated. The Process Picture Map (PPM) is a 1-page, 2-sided, step-by-step guide (with pictures) that captures the "Best Known Way" to do something. PPMs are used to effectively communicate a process in a simple and logical way. The PPM may be attached to a monitor or machine in a workspace and/or placed on an intranet system. Two (2) PPM samples are available for your review: The first is a Physical Operation and the second is Computer/Data Entry Operation. While reviewing the PPMs, please consider the following beneficial applications of Process Picture Maps.
