The primary emphasis will be upon individual, group and family dynamics and treatment strategies, and not primarily upon the legal, institutional guidelines various schools and communities may put in place. For counselors and therapists to deal with bullies and their targets, a fluid, flexible and personality-based approach will be presented which integrates biosocial, neurodevelopmental and psychodynamic/systemic approaches.

Overview
Healthcare professionals are often the first point of contact for older adults suffering from abuse, exploitation and neglect. All healthcare professionals have a professional and legal obligation to report suspected abuse with courage and correctness. In order to fulfill this responsibility, we must be able to accurately identify the signs of physical, emotional, and financial abuse in the elderly and know how to properly report these incidents to the proper authorities. This full day program will consist of presentations by three experts on the issue of elder abuse. Participants will hear from a seasoned geriatrician, a clinician for the elderly in the healthcare field and a community expert and trainer from the Illinois Department on Aging. The speakers will help participants better understand the many complex issues involved in understanding, identifying and reporting elder abuse. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the prevalence, risk factors, state laws, and best practice interventions for elder abuse.
