Academic Computing Committee

The Academic Computing Committee of Oakton Community College is a standing committee that provides direction and recommendations for the implementation of instructional technology within the college. The committee is comprised of 8 elected faculty members, 2 from each academic division, a library representative, information technology staff, interested parties and ex-officio administrative members. The committee meets six times a year, the first Wednesday of October, November, December, February, March, and April. Additional meetings may be called as the need arises.

Purpose

  • Serve as liaison for faculty with technology related needs.
  • Evaluate emerging technology use on campus.
  • Recommend and prioritize the purchase of specific hardware/software.
  • Disseminate instructional technology information to all segments of OCC.
  • Discuss technology news and issues that affect the campus use of academic computing across college and department reporting lines.
  • Coordinate the sharing of academic IT strategies, innovations, and solutions.
  • Coordinate faculty programs concerned with the implementation of IT for education.
  • Frame academic IT principles, policies, and standards that have college wide impact.
  • Provide advice on matters affecting computers and computing in an academic setting.
  • Promote and coordinate academic computing on campus.
  • Develop long-range plans to fulfill the college's academic needs.
  • Make recommendations on the use of facilities and allocation of resources.
