For the past two years our College community has
been actively engaged in self study—a rigorous process of
self assessment and reflection institutions of higher learning
voluntarily undertake to maintain the highest standards of teaching,
learning, and institutional accountability.
Culminating this process is the publication
of a self study report. It is our pleasure to share with you Oakton’s
2007 Self Study, which may be accessed in its entirety from this
page. The report is a comprehensive examination of how the College embodies
our mission, vision, and values in practices and policies, and represents
the direct efforts of more than 100 Oakton faculty, staff, students,
and administrators. Our self study is organized around the five criteria
for accreditation adopted by the Higher Learning Commission, the accrediting
agency charged with assuring the quality of higher education in the
country’s North Central Region.
The next step in the reaccreditation process
is the visit of our HLC consultant-evaluator team from October 15-17,
2007. The team will spend those two days talking with a wide range of
Oakton students, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of our
external community. At the end of their visit, they will provide an
exit report summarizing their impressions of the College, along with
their preliminary recommendations. We will receive a final report from
the HLC, based on the team’s recommendations, approximately 8-12
weeks after the visit.
We are proud of the work completed by the
College community thus far on our self study and reaccreditation process
and are confident that our efforts will make us an even stronger, more
effective institution of higher learning. We invite you to share in
this effort by reading the self study, as well as brief biographies
about our visiting team and other relevant information about the 2007
reaccreditation process.
