Bettsey L. Barhorst, Ph.D. Bettsey L. Barhorst was appointed president of Madison Area Technical College, Madison, Wisconsin, in November 2004. Before beginning her tenure at MATC, she served as president of Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa and prior to that, she served as a faculty member, Director of QUEST Program, Chair of English and Foreign Languages, Executive Assistant to the President, and Vice President of Planning and Information Services at Illinois Central College. Dr. Barhorst is a member of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; the Biopharmaceutical Technology Center Institute Board of Directors; the Urban League of Greater Madison Board of Directors; Schools of Hope Leadership Team; United Way Delegation on Disconnected and Violent Youth; and Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce’s Regional Development Economic Entity. The recipient of the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction from Phi Theta Kappa, and the American Association of Women in Community Colleges – Illinois Central College Chapter Jewel Award, she also was inducted into the Illinois State University College of Education Alumni Hall of Fame. She holds a Ph.D. in educational administration and foundations from Illinois State University; an M.A. in management and human resource development from Webster University-Geneva; an M.A. in speech communication and theatre from Bradley University; and a B.A. in speech and theater from Fontbonne College. |

David K. Ho David Ho, a management instructor at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska, teaches logistics, operations management, quality management, and statistical process control. Prior to joining the faculty at Metro, he worked in the manufacturing sector for more than 20 years, holding positions as vice president of manufacturing, vice president of operations, director of materials and systems, and plant manager. He also has served in leadership positions at the chapter and region level for The Association for Operations Management (APICS) and is certified at the fellow level in production and inventory management (CFPIM) and as a supply chain professional (CSCP). A member of the Board of Trustees of the Higher Learning Commission, he is the current president of the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), a specialized accrediting agency. He holds an M.B.A. from Butler University, an M.S. in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and a B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Southern California. |

M. Cathey Maze, Ph.D. M. Cathey Maze is the Interim Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs at Oakland Community College in Michigan. She also serves as the lead dean for Student Learning Outcomes Assessment and was the coordinator of Oakland’s Accreditation Self Study for the Higher Learning Commission (2005-2008). Before her current position, she served as Dean of Academic and Student Services at the Highland campus of Oakland Community College, was a member of the faculty at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, for 25 years, and also served in a variety of administrative positions including Assistant Dean and Dean of an Academic Division, Acting Assistant Academic Vice President, and Accreditation Self Study Coordinator. She is a consultant in areas of culture and diversity and outcomes assessment for public and private human services organizations in Ohio and Indiana as well as for central Ohio hospitals, educational organizations, and businesses. She has been a Consultant-Evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission since 1997. She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in anthropology from The Ohio State University and her B.S. in sociology from the University of Tennessee. She is certified in international business by the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Business and is a Certified Culture and Diversity Trainer for the Institute for Human Services in Columbus, Ohio. |

Susan A. Murphy, Ph.D., team chairperson Susan A. Murphy is Vice President for Academic Affairs at Central New Mexico Community College (formerly Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute). Before assuming this post in September 2007, Murphy was Dean of Arts and Sciences and Dean of Math, Science, and Engineering since 1987. Arts and Sciences, the Liberal Arts unit of Central New Mexico Community College, houses 27 disciplines of study at the college freshman and sophomore level. (Recent re-organization has sub-divided Arts and Sciences and Math, Science, and Engineering.) As dean, her duties included hiring and evaluating staff and faculty; monitoring professional development plans; determining course offerings and curriculum planning as they support certificate and associate degree programs; developing policies and procedures and providing advice on institutional policies and direction; identifying equipment and supplies sources for program support; determining facilities management issues as well as capital outlay needs; and managing the department budget ($10 million). Her wide range of professional activities includes board memberships for the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education, Statewide Articulation Project; Institute for Criminal Justice Studies, University of New Mexico; American Business Women’s Association; and the MEPAC-Minority Engineering Program Advisory Council. She also served on the Board of Examiners for Quality New Mexico. A member of the National Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi, Murphy earned a Ph.D. in romance languages and an M.A. in Spanish from the University of New Mexico; and a B.A. in Spanish/French from the University of Massachusetts. |

Rebecca Nickoli, Ed.D Rebecca Nickoli is the associate vice provost at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, Indiana. During her 29-year tenure at the College, she has served as a faculty member; director of the Logansport campus; and division chair of general education and director of student services at the Richmond campus. As the system officer for accreditation, she is working on Ivy Tech’s one college (23 campuses!) self-study for the visit expected in the 2008-2009 academic year. She also will be serving as a team chair for the first time in spring 2008 at a college in Oklahoma. Her degrees include a B.A. in Latin and an M.A. in Student Personnel Administration from Ball State University; an Educational Specialist in Curriculum and Instructional Planning from Wright State University; Librarian IV certification through the Indiana State Library; and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from Ball State University. |

Michael G. Walraven, Ph.D. Michael G. Walraven has been at Jackson Community College in Jackson, Michigan, since 1968, most of that time as professor of psychology. He served as Dean of Instruction from 1984-1995 and also conducted significant institutional research. With two other faculty members, Walraven initiated the Jackson Community College assessment program in the mid-1980s, and is still involved in that effort. He also has taken a lead role in forming several social agencies in the local community, including the AWARE shelter for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, and the Hospice of Jackson. |
