Please note that due to their sensitive nature some programs may be intended for men only.

For Oakton Students: Scholarships to attend Men’s Day are available. Interested students are encouraged to contact Bea Cornelissen, Office of College Advancement (Room 1144, Des Plaines campus), 847-635-1812 to apply for a Men’s Day Scholarship.

Session I
11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

WOUNDED HEALER
Wendell Carpenter.
All of us are healers. As parents, we console our family members during difficult times; as friends, we provide support to others when they have problems. This workshop offers an opportunity to let those experiences teach us some valuable lessons.

GROWING UP WITH ANGER
Jack Dohr.
We all grow up with anger and each of us has the ability to deal with it, either constructively or destructively. The presenter will share his experiences working with incarcerated youth (ages 14-18). We’ll discuss the root causes of their anger, the impact it has on their lives, and the options available for dealing with anger in positive ways.

MALE AND FEMALE COMMUNICATION ENERGY
Richard Popp.
This workshop explores male and female energy and the differences in how each gender communicates. How can we learn to understand and appreciate these differences, instead of trying to invalidate and change members of the opposite sex?

MEN’S WORK
Gregory Baldauf.
Explore the meaning, purpose, and activities involved in men’s work.

MEN’S WORK, POLITICS AND SOCIAL CHANGE
Dean Tripp.
Are men’s work, politics, and social change all part of the same thing? If so, how? Come brothers, let us reason, relate, and work together—for the change!

STEPPING INTO THE FIRE: COUPLES RESOLVING CONFLICT
Gail Canning and Gary Shunk.
When in conflict, you want to be seen, heard, and validated. So does your partner. Join us to develop your skills in resolving conflict successfully.

POWER OF THE ENNEAGRAM
Michael Maloney.
The Enneagram is an ancient personality theory that helps us to better understand our interpersonal relationships. In this workshop we will expose our compulsive behaviors and learn how to break free of them.

BECOMING AWARE OF MULTICULTURAL INFLUENCES ON INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Kenneth Kikuchi.
This experiential workshop will explore how our cultural background influences our interpersonal relationships with others. Discover how to make oneself a culturally competent male by learning to communicate with humility, openness, and sensitivity.

MEN AND PLAY
Dick Levon
. Play is vital to our overall health and happiness. Why is play so misunderstood and even viewed as a trivial waste of time? This experiential session explores our need to play, the multifaceted nature of play, and the value and benefit it could have in our lives.
