The current exhibition, Painting in Chicago Now, consists of 20 artists working in a variety of media, subjects and styles. Painting has clearly been a steady force in Chicago since the 1950s and especially the late 1960s and 1970s, with the advent of the Imagists, a group that included Ed Paschke, Jim Nutt and Roger Brown--to name a few of the feisty up-start artists who defied the hegemony of the New York School. The work in this exhibit amplifies the continued interest and fecundity of painting, with its many possibilities of personal expression and formal investigation.
