James Krauss: Paintings
Peter Hessemer: Ceramics
While color and expression remain his primary interests, James Krauss over the past decade has developed a combined approach to media using watercolor and acrylic titanium white on watercolor paper. The use of paper along with a more intimate scale has allowed Krauss, chair of Oakton’s art department, to substitute visual references with subtle nuances and poetic moods.
Inspired by his teachers, Rudolf Staffel and Ruth Duckworth, Peter Hessemer is formally stimulated by natural objects, and his creative process is open-ended. In this exhibition, Hessemer, head of Oakton’s ceramics studio, displays hand-built and wheel-thrown porcelain in a variety of sizes.
