The Office of College Advancement serves a dual function:
to inform the community about College programs and services and to raise
funds for compelling initiatives not supported by the College budget
or other grants.
In keeping with the College’s mission to support
“excellence in teaching and learning,” College Advancement
develops and implements marketing strategies – advertising, direct
mail, print and electronic publications, public and media relations,
special events, and Web sites – that seek to inform the community
about programs and services and encourage participation in them.
College Advancement produces and distributes a variety
of publications, including Outlook, an annual magazine highlighting
Oakton’s unique programs, student and faculty achievements, and
outstanding alumni; President’s Report to the Community,
a yearly summary of the College’s accomplishments with respect
to the strategic plan; Educational Foundation Annual Report,
showcasing the Foundation’s grants, scholarships, and donors;
Pavilion Pulse, a bi-annual newsletter focusing on programs
unique to the Skokie campus; ArtWalk, a catalog of the permanent
art collection housed in the Koehnline Museum at the Des Plaines campus;
Foundation Digest, published three times a year to commemorate
the Foundation’s commitment to Oakton students and employees;
and the College Catalog and Credit and Noncredit Class
Schedules.
College Advancement also supports Oakton faculty and staff,
developing and producing hundreds of banners, flyers, posters, and Web
pages that promote academic programs and activities. As the guardian
of the College’s image, College Advancement monitors the use of
Oakton’s logo and provides input with respect to the signage,
colors, landscaping, and other matters that affect the public’s
perception of the institution.
Every year College Advancement sponsors a number of special
events for Oakton employees, including the All-College Breakfast, Rock
the Foundation, and Trash Bash. Other programs attract and inform community
residents such as the official ceremonies for the groundbreaking and
dedication of the Art, Science, and Technology Pavilion at the Ray Hartstein
Campus in Skokie; the annual Volunteers’ Recognition Day; the
grand opening of the Center for Professional Development at the Westfield
Old Orchard Shopping Center; and the statewide Collegiate Artists Competition.
In addition, each semester College Advancement hosts a “President’s
Circle” breakfast for specific targeted groups such as corporate,
civic, or educational leaders in the community.
Within College Advancement, the Oakton Educational
Foundation sponsors three fundraisers each year: the Christmas Spirits
Bar Revue in January; a spring benefit in May; and Oakton at Arlington
in August.
