Oakton
Community College introduces a new certificate program for students
interested in earning a Stationary Engineers License. The 13-credit
hour curriculum teaches skills necessary for the proper operation
of high-pressure boilers and, with proper field experience, students
may take the Stationary Engineers License exam.
"Graduates
with this certificate can expect to find careers in a wide variety
of facilities, such as high-rise buildings, hospitals, and manufacturing
plants," said Chad Granger, coordinator of Oakton's air conditioning,
heating and refrigeration technology programs. Full time employees
of approved in-district companies may be eligible for in-district
tuition.
Courses
taught as part of the Stationary Engineers License Preparation
Certificate include "Introduction to Air Conditioning and Refrigeration"
(AHR 101); "Introduction to Electricity and Automatic Controls" (AHR
104); "Residential Hot Water Boilers and Hydronics Technology" (AHR
206); Low Pressure Steam Boilers and Operation (AHR 209) and "High
