OAKTON TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS CAPTURE TOP HONORS AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Members of Oakton's Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Club returned with three first place awards from the AITP Collegiate Conference held last month in Kansas City, MO. Oakton was one of only 12 community colleges to participate in the competition, which hosted approximately 100 universities and colleges nationwide.

Jeannette Schultz, 24, of Park Ridge edged out competitors from the University of Mississippi, University of Texas, Bradley University, and Texas A&M, to win two first place awards for her entries in the Web Application and the FrontPage/Webmaster contests. A native of Germany, Schultz moved to the U.S. in 1997 and already has earned certificates from Oakton in Web Programming and Web Page Support and Maintenance. She is currently the AITP Club's vice president and is studying for an additional certificate in Visual Basic.

Skokie resident Mea Toy, 53, earned first place in the technical category of the Student Chapter competition for a Web banner she created for the Oakton AITP chapter. Toy serves as secretary for Oakton's AITP Club and is studying desktop design and desktop publishing.

Other students who participated in the competition include AITP Club President Richard Buckley, 66, of Chicago, and Tatyana Kiseleva, 32, of Skokie.

Oakton's AITP Club is designed for students planning careers in information systems or related fields, and provides opportunities for students to participate and network within the information technology community.
