Soar to a career in aviation by enrolling in courses offered this spring by Oakton's Alliance for Lifelong Learning (ALL).Introduction to Aviation Careers (TEC B02-01, Touch-Tone 08777) explores the occupational and educational requirements for pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers, ground support crew members, and flight attendants. The class meets from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6. The course fee is $25.
Pilot Rating, Private (TEC A35-01, Touch-Tone 08776) helps students prepare for the FAA Private Pilot Rating written exam. Topics include meteorology, navigation, traffic control, communications, use of the E6-8 computer, and the "Airman's Information Manual." The 11-week class meets from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning Feb. 11. The course fee is $125, with an additional materials fee of approximately $90 due the first day of class.
Pilot Rating, Instrumental (TEC A36-01, Touch-Tone 08775) helps students prepare for the FAA Instrument Pilot Rating written exam. Among the topics covered are meteorology, navigation, traffic control, communications, map reading, automatic direction finding, instrument landing systems, and the "Airman's Information Manual." This seven-week course meets from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Feb. 13. The class fee is $150, with an additional materials fee of approximately $75 due the first day of class.
All classes meet at Maine East High School, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge. The instructor is Robert Werderich, an airline pilot and flight instructor certified by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Students who have registered for ALL classes within the last five years or a credit course within the last three years may register by using the Touch-Tone system at 847-635-1616 or by fax at 847- 635-1448.
