Popular 'Cooking with Chefs' Series Returns to Oakton

Begin a culinary adventure by enrolling in cooking series offered this summer by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College.

Baking, Pastry Arts, and More (HEC F58-41) offers instruction in how to create gourmet pastry and other treats. Course is taught by Mark Kwasigroch, owner of Dream Cakes and a pastry arts instructor at Kendall College School of Culinary Arts. Four-week class meets Tuesdays, 7 - 9 p.m., at Dream Cakes, 3455 W. Dempster St., Skokie. Course fee is $277. Students may also enroll in individual sessions at a discount.

The series begins May 20 with Knife Skills, which demonstrates how to safely chop, julienne, chiffonade, and slice to perfection while cooking. Students also learn sharpening and honing techniques. Bring your own chef's and paring knives to class.

The series continues with Cake Decorating (June 3), Homemade Pasta (June 17), and Tapas (July 15).
