Begin
a culinary adventure by enrolling in cooking series offered this summer
by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College.
Baking, Pastry Arts, and More (HEC F58-41) offers
instruction in how to create gourmet pastry and other treats. Course
is taught by Mark Kwasigroch, owner of Dream Cakes and a pastry arts
instructor at Kendall College School of Culinary Arts. Four-week class
meets Tuesdays, 7 - 9 p.m., at Dream Cakes, 3455 W. Dempster St.,
Skokie. Course fee is $277. Students may also enroll in individual
sessions at a discount.
The series begins May 20 with Knife Skills, which
demonstrates how to safely chop, julienne, chiffonade, and slice to
perfection while cooking. Students also learn sharpening and honing
techniques. Bring your own chef's and paring knives to class.
The
series continues with Cake Decorating (June 3), Homemade
Pasta (June 17), and Tapas (July 15).
