Gain an edge in seeking a new job or promotion by preparing for professional certification exams at Oakton Community College. The following Alliance for Lifelong Learning courses meet at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.

Networking Essentials (CPT A41-01) assists students with the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Network certification exam, and introduces students to the concepts of electronic data communications systems. Sixteen-week course meets 10 - 11:50 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting Jan. 18. Course fee is $226.

Introduction to Networking (INT A01-01) prepares students for one of the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification exams. Eight-week class meets 6 - 10 p.m., Tuesdays, starting Jan. 18. Course fee is $288.

Windows Desktop Operating Systems (CPT A36-01) assists students in preparing for one of the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification exams. Course familiarizes students with Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating System software. Eight-week course meets 6 - 9:50 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting Jan. 18. Course fee is $226.

Database Applications for PCs (CPT A12-01) looks forward to one of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exams. Sixteen-week course focuses on database structure and design. Class meets 6 - 9:50 p.m., Wednesdays, starting Jan. 19. Course fee is $226.

Other professional certification exam preparation courses include: Principles of Internet Routing (INT A02-01), Network Interfacing Techniques (INT A04-01), Windows Server Operating System (CPT A37-01), and Electronic Spreadsheeting for PCs (CPT A11-01).
