Oakton Alliance Courses Celebrate Creativity

There's still time to explore a variety of courses offered this spring by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College.

Acting Fundamentals (COM S53-02) teaches all skill levels acting basics for stage work, auditions, or simply fun. Four-week course meets 7 - 8:30 p.m., Mondays, starting April 11, at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines. Course fee is $89.

Flash Fiction (COM S22-01) provides insight into this short-story genre. Six-week session meets 7 - 9:15 p.m., Wednesdays, starting April 13, at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Ave., Skokie. Course fee is $115.

Explore the Beauty of Basket Weaving (ART C23-02) shows how to create a basket for function or decoration using seasonal materials. Students must supply scissors, bucket, awl or screwdriver, twist ties, and an old beach towel. Single session meets 6:45 - 9:45 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, at Glenbrook South High School, 4000 W. Lake Ave., Glenview. Course fee is $45.

Wearable Art: Paint a Silk Scarf (ART C97-02) shows how to create finished silk pieces that are growing in popularity as fashion accessories. Students should bring the following supplies to class: iron, blow dryer, and an old beach towel. Single session meets 7 - 9:30 p.m., Monday, April 25, at Maine West High School. Course fee is $45.
