Explore Finance and Hobbies with Oakton's Alliance

Enhance personal and professional knowledge through continuing education courses offered by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College. Courses are available evenings and weekends at various locations.

Beginning Glass Fusing: A Passion for Jewelry (ART B26-01) demonstrates how to create your own piece of jewelry made with sparkling, multi-colored glass. Two-week course meets Monday, 7 - 9 p.m., starting Oct. 15, at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines. Course fee is $46. A materials fee of $15 is due at the first class session.

Retirement Planning Today™ (FIN E02-06) teaches investment strategies to minimize risk and maximize return. Three-week course meets Monday, 6:30 - 9 p.m., starting Oct. 15, at Evanston Township High School, 1600 E. Dodge Ave., Evanston. Course fee is $40.

Don't Leave Your Estate to the IRS (FIN E27-02) explains how to effectively manage your estate to avoid probate and minimize taxes. Course meets 7 - 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Evanston Township High School. Course fee is $19.

America's Boating Course (REC E12-02) demonstrates boat safety and boat handling for experienced and novice sailing enthusiasts. Three-week course meets Tuesday, 7 - 9 p.m., starting Oct. 16, at Glenbrook South High School, 4000 W. Lake Ave., Glenview. Course fee is $15. A materials fee of $35 is due at the first class session.

Job Searches Online (DPR E11-01) teaches how to post your resume and search for employment at popular online job sites. Course meets 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at North Shore Senior Center, 161 Northfield Road, Northfield. Course fee is $58.

Other available courses include: Tracing Your Family's Roots (HIS E70-01), Interior Decorating on a Budget (HEC B19-01), Solving Sudoku (REC E04-02), and Home Ownership 101 (TEC B50-02).
