Enroll in Oakton Continuing Ed Courses

Enroll in a variety of outstanding courses being offered by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College. Courses are available evenings and weekends at various locations.

The No Child Left Behind Act: Promise vs. Performance (PSE B28-01) examines the ambitious 2001 education legislation. Session meets 5:30 - 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Course fee is $22.

Knitting - Adapted to Your Level (HEC S20-03) demonstrates basic knitting stitches and techniques to complete any project at any skill level. Eight-week course meets Wednesday, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., starting Sept. 12, at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave., Evanston. Course fee is $60. The cost of materials is not included in the course fee.

Arabic Reading Group (LAR B01-01) is focused on reading articles from Arabic newspapers. Newspapers will be provided, but students will need to purchase an Arabic/English dictionary. Twelve-week course meets Wednesday, 7 - 9:30 p.m., starting Sept. 12, at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines. Course fee is $194.

Mystery Shopping: Get Paid to Shop (BUB E34-01) gives tips on how to be a "secret shopper" for stores, restaurants, and other businesses. Course meets 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus. Course fee is $29.

Other available courses include: Drumming Circle Lessons (MUS B52-02), Beginning Cantonese (LCH C07-01), Tune up Your Business Voice: It's Your Fortune (COM S25-01), and Bartending Certification (BAR T02-01).
