Shed
some pounds or tone up this fall by enrolling in classes offered by
the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College. The
following courses meet at Prairie View Community Center, 6834 Dempster
St., Morton Grove.
Spinning
(PED C42-01) is a high-energy class where students ride a stationary
bike at their own pace for a great cardiovascular workout. Bring a
small towel and water bottle to class. Six-week course meets Saturdays,
7:30 - 8:20 a.m., starting Sept. 30. Course fee is $84.
Pilates (PED EO4-01, PED C43-01) is a method of exercise
designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Benefits include
improved lung capacity, circulation, and coordination. Beginner and
intermediate courses are offered. Beginning Pilates meets Tuesdays,
7:30 - 8:30 p.m., starting Sept. 26 for six weeks. Course fee is $78.
Intermediate Pilates meets Fridays, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., starting Sept.
29 for six weeks. Course fee is $78.
Yoga
(PED S10-03) allows students to develop strength, flexibility,
stamina, and better concentration through relaxation exercises. Bring
a pillow and towel for use on the mat. Six-week course meets Saturdays,
8:45 - 9:45 a.m., starting Sept. 30. Course fee is $78.
The
NIA Approach to Mind and Body Fitness (PED C02-01) combines
modern dance, martial arts, and ancient healing forms. Neuromuscular
Integrative Action (NIA) is a safe, effective, and entertaining way
to stay in shape, regardless of age or fitness level. Six-week course
meets Sundays, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., starting Oct. 1. Course fee is $78.
