Spruce up Your Home Through Oakton Classes

Spruce up your home by enrolling in classes offered through the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College.

Succeed with Orchids (ORN S11-01) provides advice about choosing an orchid for your home, and the conditions necessary for it to thrive. One-week course meets 7 - 10 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Glenbrook South High, 4000 W. Lake Ave., Glenview. Course fee is $19.

Plumbing the Depths (TEC S16-01) teaches plumbing basics, including how to connect faucets and toilets. Four-week seminar meets 7 - 9 p.m., Tuesdays, starting Oct. 26, at Maine East High, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge. Course fee is $69.

Fun with Wire and Beads (HEC B21-02) demonstrates various weaving techniques to help you create your own unique jewelry. One-week course meets 7 - 9:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15, at Maine West High, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines. Course fee is $19.

Japanese Christmas Origami (ART C39-01) teaches how to create beautiful ornaments and gifts using the ancient art of folding paper. Four-week course meets 7 - 9 p.m., Tuesdays, starting Oct. 19, at Glenbrook South High, 4000 W. Lake Ave., Glenview. Course fee is $69.

Other around-the-home courses include Big, Beautiful Beads (HEC B22-01), and Blooming Orchids: Growing to the Next Level (ORN S12-01).

Students who have registered for continuing education classes within the last five years, or for a credit course in the last three years, may register using the Touch-Tone system at 847-635-1616 or by fax at 847-635-1448. Both methods require payment with a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
