Oakton Courses Focus on Nature

Enhance your knowledge of nature by enrolling in classes offered this fall by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College.

How to Press Flowers (BOT E57-01) allows students to learn how to press and dry flowers to extend their beauty. Class meets 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe. Course fee is $74.

Landscape Painting (ART D25-01) offers students the opportunity to be inspired in a natural setting – Oakton’s beautiful Des Plaines campus. Six-week course meets 1 – 3 p.m., Friday, starting Sept. 5, at Oakton’s Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. Course fee is $105.

Harvest Treasures Preserved (BOT E59-01) demonstrates various methods for preserving your favorite flowers, foliage, and fruit. Course meets 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Course fee is $37.

Prairie Plant Identification in the Field
(BOT E58-01) provides instruction in identifying individual prairie species and common plant families. Course meets 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Course fee is $74.

Bonsai: Beginner Basics and Fundamentals
(BOT E37-01) covers the principles and techniques to appreciate and participate in the art of bonsai. Six-week course meets 1 – 4 p.m., Sunday, starting Sept. 7, at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Course fee is $224.
