Oakton’s Alliance Provides Variety

Enroll in a variety of classes offered by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College this spring. Courses meet at various locations.
     
Bartending Certification (BAR T01-01) prepares students for bartending opportunities in the public and private sectors. Graduates may qualify for job placement. Five-session class meets 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, starting Jan. 12, at ABC Bartending School, 1699 Wall St., Mount Prospect. Course fee is $525.
     
Early Garden History (BOT E61-01) showcases how gardening and gardening design are intertwined with the development of civilization. The instructor is a landscape historian. Ten-week course meets 6:30 – 9 p.m., Monday, starting Jan. 12, at Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe. Course fee is $337.
     
America’s Boating Course (REC E12-07) demonstrates boat safety and boat handling for experienced and novice sailing enthusiasts. Course is taught by officers of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. A materials fee of $35 is due at the first class. Three-week course meets 7 – 9 p.m., Monday, starting Jan. 12, at the Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Road, Glencoe. Course fee is $15.
     
Sing, Sing, Sing: Creative Vocal Coaching (MUS S25-01) offers tips and techniques to create your own unique vocal style. Eight-session course meets at Oakton’s Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, starting Tuesday, Jan. 13. Lesson days and times are scheduled on an individual basis with the instructor, Eileen Berman, 847-674-0035. Course fee is $180.
     
Other available courses include: Sizzling Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, and Bachata (PED E88-01); Practical Puppy Training (REC S08-01); and Knitting Adapted to Your Level (HEC S20-03).
