Oakton Emeritus Program Focuses on Art and Music Classes

Learn about American artists and musical genres of the southern U.S., by enrolling in Emeritus Program classes at Oakton Community College. All featured courses meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Charles Sheeler and the American Realist Tradition (ART B25-61) prepares students to experience the upcoming Art Institute of Chicago exhibit devoted to Charles Sheeler, one of the most important painters and photographers in 20th century American art. This one-week course meets 1 - 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27. Course fee is $20

American South: Country to Bluegrass (MUS E29-65) allows students to hear traditional American country music, from Bill Monroe to Lyle Lovett, performed by the acclaimed jazz, country, and bluegrass duo, Sunnyside Up. One-week session meets 3:30 - 5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27. Course fee is $15.

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars, and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences with peers age 50 and over.
