Bluestem Celebrates Chicago's Cultural Landscape

Follow the dramatic changes to Chicago's cultural landscape over the last four decades at the 2008 Bluestem Festival of the Arts and Humanities. Eight events are scheduled June 2 - 5 at Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

"Chicago's Best and Brightest II" offers a sequel to last year's Bluestem Festival and celebrates the architects, engineers, sculptors, and gardeners responsible for transforming the "city of broad shoulders" into a renowned travel destination. Featured programs include:

"Millennium Park: The World's Window to Chicago" considers the unique combination of resources needed to develop this award-winning project. The lecture also covers major contributors to the park's overall success (Monday, June 2, 10 - 11:30 a.m.);

"Walking Chicago and Other Stories" allows participants to hear Chicago stories from one of the city's best storytellers, Elynne Chaplik-Aleskow (Tuesday, June 3, 10 - 11:30 a.m.);

"World Music Festival: Chicago" provides a behind-the-scenes look at this multicultural celebration of music (Tuesday, June 3, 1 - 2:30 p.m.); and

"Chicago Blues Routes" examines the impact of Chicago blues on the global music scene (Thursday, June 5, 1 - 2:30 p.m.).

The fee for the entire Bluestem Festival series is $45; individual lectures are $10 each.
