Follow the dramatic changes to Chicago's cultural
landscape over the last four decades at the 2008 Bluestem
Festival of the Arts and Humanities. Eight events are scheduled
June 2 - 5 at Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
"Chicago's Best and Brightest II"
offers a sequel to last year's Bluestem Festival and celebrates the
architects, engineers, sculptors, and gardeners responsible for transforming
the "city of broad shoulders" into a renowned travel destination.
Featured programs include:
"Millennium Park: The World's Window to Chicago"
considers the unique combination of resources needed to develop this
award-winning project. The lecture also covers major contributors
to the park's overall success (Monday, June 2, 10 - 11:30 a.m.);
"Walking Chicago and Other Stories"
allows participants to hear Chicago stories from one of the city's
best storytellers, Elynne Chaplik-Aleskow (Tuesday, June 3, 10 - 11:30
a.m.);
"World Music Festival: Chicago" provides
a behind-the-scenes look at this multicultural celebration of music
(Tuesday, June 3, 1 - 2:30 p.m.); and
"Chicago Blues Routes" examines
the impact of Chicago blues on the global music scene (Thursday, June
5, 1 - 2:30 p.m.).
The fee for the entire Bluestem Festival series is
$45; individual lectures are $10 each.
