Cultural Classes Offered at Oakton

Increase your cultural knowledge by enrolling in courses offered through the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College. All featured classes meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

More Great Women of Opera (MUS E79-61) studies famous heroines in opera history. Four-week class meets 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays, starting Oct. 26. Course fee is $50.

Sicily: Crossroads of Civilization (ART C78-61) explores the convergence of Greek, Roman, Arab, and Norman cultures on the tiny island at Italy's southern tip. One-week seminar meets 1 - 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27. Course fee is $20.

Discovering the Six Brandenburg Concertos, Part II (MUS C06-62) continues the Emeritus exploration of Bach's musical odyssey. Four-week course meets 10 - 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays, starting Nov. 3. Course fee is $60.

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars, and tours, while providing an opportunity to share learning with peers age 50 and over.

Students age 60 and over who live within Oakton's district pay half-tuition for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for classes within the last five years may register using the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration requires payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
