Topics
in Humanities Great Moments in Opera II (HUM 290-001) studies
the work of famous opera composers including Mozart, Donizetti, Wagner,
Verdi, Bizet, and Puccini. The 17-week class meets 9 - 11:50 a.m.
on Fridays, starting Jan. 23 at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N.
Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
The
Klezmer Story (MUS S66-71) explores the origin of klezmer, the
ancient secular Jewish folk music that originated in Central and Eastern
Europe and played at Jewish celebrations. This six-week course meets
10 - 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, starting Jan. 13 at the Skokie Chamber
of Commerce, 5006 Oakton St., Skokie.
Other
Emeritus cultural classes offered during the spring 2004 semester
include Topics in Literature: Chicago Writers (EGL 290-001)
and Great Portraits (SOC S64-71).
Students
age 60 and over who reside within Oakton's district pay half-tuition
for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for an Oakton
credit class within the last three years or an Alliance for Lifelong
Learning noncredit class within the last five years may register using
the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration
requires payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
