Oakton Emeritus Program Offers Diverse Courses

The Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College offers a variety of courses for the spring 2005 semester. All featured courses are held at the Ray Hartstein College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

The History of Western Thought (HIS C13-71) explores 20 of the greatest thinkers of Western civilization and their intellectual legacies. Five-week course meets 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., Mondays, starting March 7. Course fee is $60.

Beethoven: A Trio of Sonatas (MUS S78-71) examines the history and structure of Beethoven's most popular piano sonatas. Four-week course meets 10 - 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays, starting March 9. Course fee is $60.

Wagner's Ring: The Pinnacle of Operatic Art (MUS S71-71) explores the themes, music, characters, and language of this epic opera. Six-week course meets 12:30 - 2 p.m., Fridays, starting March 11. Course fee is $80.

Tai Chi (PED E30-72) demonstrates an ancient form of exercise to reduce stress and connect the mind with the body. Five-week course meets 12 - 1 p.m., Mondays, starting March 14. Course fee is $66.

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars, and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences with peers age 50 and over.
