Oakton Emeritus Programs Focus on Creativity

Tap into your creative side by taking courses offered by the Oakton Community College Emeritus Program. All featured classes meet at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave, Skokie.

Learning to Draw Portraits (ART C63-71) teaches basic portrait skills through the concepts of value, form, and positive space, using photographs and live models. This eight-week course meets 9:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. on Fridays, starting Feb. 20. Course fee is $110.

The Songwriters of Tin Pan Alley (MUS S62-71) examines the music of famous early 20th century songwriters who specialized in jazz, ragtime, and popular ballads, by hearing the songs performed by a professional vocalist. This four-week class meets 2 - 3:30 p.m. on Mondays, starting Feb. 23. Course fee is $30 for the series or $10 for individual classes.

Students age 60 and over who reside within Oakton's district pay half-tuition for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for an Oakton credit class within the last three years or an Alliance for Lifelong Learning noncredit class within the last five years may register using the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration requires payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
