cinema, and Buddhism are among the course topics offered this spring
by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College. Featured courses
meet at Oakton's Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.
Edward
Hopper and the Poetry of Ordinary Life (ART H04-71) explores
the chilling visual impact of this artist's color-splashed compositions
informed by isolation, melancholy, and loneliness. Course meets 1
- 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20. Course fee is $20.
A
Film Tribute to Cannes (HUM B45-71) celebrates the 60th anniversary
of the world-famous festival by screening international favorites
from years past. Films to be viewed and discussed include: Brief
Encounter, The Lost Weekend, Marty, and The
Pianist. Six-week course meets 9:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., Friday,
starting Feb. 22. Course fee is $100.
The
Way of Oneness (PHL E76-71) examines basic Buddhist teachings and
how to apply them to everyday life. This course will help explain
the growing popularity of Buddhism. Six-week course meets 10 - 11:30
a.m., Friday, starting Feb. 25. Course fee is $80.
