Oakton Emeritus Course Explores Spirit and Music

Explore Java's unusual system of musical intonation by enrolling in a course offered by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College.

Javanese Gamelan-Intonation, Gongsmithy, and Rasa (MUS B53-64) looks at the music of the gamelan, an "orchestra" of gongs and tuned metallophones, and its relationship to the Hindu-Buddhist concept of "oneness." Course meets 2:30 - 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, at Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Course fee is $15.
