Classes start in February for a variety of fitness, film, and philosophy
courses offered through the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College.
All featured courses meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N.
Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
Beginning
Hatha Yoga (PED S10-71) teaches stretching, breathing, and
relaxation techniques to relieve stress. Students should bring a small
pillow and a mat or towel to class. Five-week course meets Wednesdays,
9:30 - 10:30 a.m., starting Feb. 1. Course fee is $60.
Intermediate
Hatha Yoga (PED S11-71) is for those who have attended Beginning
Hatha Yoga and wish to advance in their practice. Eleven-week course
meets Wednesdays, 10:45 - 11:45 a.m., starting Feb, 1. Course fee
is $120.
Thumbs
Up, Thumbs Down (HUM E74-71) allows students to share opinions
about the latest movies. Six-week course meets Fridays, 1 - 3 p.m.,
starting Feb. 3. Course fee is $75.
Habitable
Zones for Life - In Space and in Time (SC1 E04-71) studies
the evolution of galaxies and the possible existence of other habitable
planets exist. Session meets 1 - 2:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3. Course
fee is $20.
Axial
Age I (PHL E49-71) explores the vast movement of intellectual
and spiritual reorganization that occurred around the seventh century
B.C.E. The influence of Zoroaster, Isaiah, Muhammad, Confucius, and
others will be examined. Eight-week course meets 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.,
Fridays, starting Feb. 3. Course fee is $90.
Oakton's
Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars,
and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences
with peers age 50 and over.
