Tone
up body and mind by enrolling in new Emeritus courses offered by Oakton
Community College. Designed for students "who weren't born yesterday,"
Oakton's Emeritus program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures,
seminars, and tours while providing an opportunity to meet peers and
share learning experiences.
Strength
and Balance (PED C04-61) offers a 30-minute strength-training
workout by Pace Fitness trainers. Six-week course meets 10 - 11:15
a.m., starting Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Pace Fitness, 8056 N. Lincoln
Ave., Skokie. Course fee is $144.
Tai
Chi (PED E30-61) combines slow, graceful movement with calm, regular
breathing to develop the body's vital energy. Six-week course meets
12 - 1 p.m., starting Monday, Sept. 13 at the Ray Hartstein Campus,
7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Course fee is $72.
Beginning
Hatha Yoga (PED S10-61) instructs students in the ancient technique
designed to relieve stress and rejuvenate the body. Six-week course
meets 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., starting Wednesday Sept. 1 at the Ray Hartstein
Campus. Course fee is $72.
Students
age 60 and over who live within Oakton's district pay half-tuition
for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for an Oakton
credit class within the last three years or an Alliance for Lifelong
Learning noncredit class within the last five years may register using
the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration
requires payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
