Stroll
down a musical memory lane by enrolling in Sentimental Sundays, offered
by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College. These classes
meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
Three-week series meets 2 - 3:30 p.m., starting Oct. 8. Series fee
is $40, or $15 per single session.
Singing
With Their Sisters (MUS C25-62) kicks off the series on Oct. 8. Revisit
songs of the 1930s, '40s, and '50s popularized by the Andrews Sisters
and Boswell Sisters.
Swinging
With The Strings (MUS C25-63) on Oct. 15 features violinist Rick Veras
and members of Moonlight Caravan. Swinging With The Stars also features
the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt and other masters of swing and
standards from the early 20th century.
Those
Really Were the Days! (MUS C25-64) concludes the series on Oct. 22.
Barb Silverman and Steve Rosen, a veteran duo from the Old Town School
of Folk Music, explore the melodious, musical wit of vaudeville that
later evolved into living room radio.
Oakton's
Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars,
and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences
with peers age 50 and over.
