classes offered by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College
focus on Jewish culture, American music, and poetry. All featured
classes meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.,
Skokie.
Jews and Gender in Films and Fiction (HUM B43-61)
examines the depiction of Jewish men and women in films, short stories,
and novels at the turn of the 20th century. Six-week course meets
Monday, 1 - 3 p.m., starting Oct. 8. Course fee is $70.
Songs
of American Workers (MUS B50-62) surveys the history of music
used as a tool for protest and organization. Course meets 2:30 - 3:30
p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. Course fee is $15.
The
Romantic Poets - The Fathers (HUM B42-61) explores the lives
of the "fathers of Romanticism," William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor
Coleridge. Four-week course meets Tuesday, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., starting
Oct 16. Course fee is $50.
